Spinal Flow Technique And The Centre Gateway

The Spinal Flow Technique and the Centre Gateway

Centre Gateway

The centre gateway is at the area of the heart. Within this gateway, twelve pairs of nerves made up of tiny nerve fibres extend from our spinal cord below each vertebra. The organs and functions of the body supplied by the nerves in this region include the heart, lungs and bronchi, gallbladder, stomach, pancreas, spleen, immune function, liver, adrenal glands, small intestine, kidneys, and bladder. Therefore, any of these areas can be affected by a blockage in the centre gateway

When they are free-flowing, these nerves supply all the organs, tissues, and cells in this area of our body and relay information back to the brain. It makes sense then that when any blockages caused by physical, emotional, or chemical stress are in the area where the nerves extend to the lungs, a person can experience emphysema, asthma, or lung problems. If the blockage is where the nerves extend to the heart, a person can experience heart disease. Many blockages in this area are, unsurprisingly, unreleased emotional traumas and burdens of the heart.

The centre gateway is the area where we use our posture to hide away or protect ourselves. If you are hiding your heart away, you are literally unable to feel connected to your own body. That’s because, when the centre gateway is blocked, the energy and information from the central nervous system cannot move freely from the top to the bottom.

Scoliosis the caged posture

The other way blockages manifest into form within the centre gateway is scoliosis. This is a sideways curvature of the spine which always starts where there is a blockage. Whereas kyphosis forms to hide the heart, scoliosis forms to protect the heart. It may be that, as a child, something happened in life that didn’t feel good. It felt unsafe to feel something and so the heart needed to be protected. The body stores the emotion as a blockage until it is safe to process and release it. But without the tools, resources, time, or support that need to be available to release it, the blockage stays where it is, the ribs harden and contract in response to the stress, and our body forms a cage of protection around this area of the body.

When there is hardness in this area, there is hardness in one’s personality and the capacity to love. The messages from the brain are not able to travel the length of the spinal cord and connect to the lower gateways. Emotional stressors create blockages. When there is a blockage in the system, we are not able to voice the true expression of who we are. Depending on how established these blockages have become, some people may feel completely disconnected from their ability to express love at all.

To live life through the heart, we start by creating freedom, flexibility, and flow in the centre gateway. For healing to happen, we must be connected and joined as one. To live free from pain, disease, and illness, we simply need to create softness and flexibility in our nervous system.

Scoliosis can also be caused physically by favouring one side when we carry a school bag, shopping, or a baby or young child. It can occur because of repeated activity on one side unequally. The good news is, if it is caused purely by physical stress, it can be corrected quickly. It is when there is emotional stress layered on top, that more and more layers of blockage accumulate, and it becomes harder to correct and requires more time, courage, and patience

Forward leaning posture- Kyphosis

Kyphosis is a forward flexion of the spine where the shoulders and chest appear hunched forward. I see this posture often with people who are empaths - their heart is quite hidden. Their shoulders become rigid from the stress and tension they carry. The more stress they feel, the more their heart becomes hidden away and it is like they tend to forget who they are. Instead, what I want to help people do is open this area up so their heart can lead. When we start to prioritise ourselves, we allow our hearts to lead our lives, rather than prioritising everyone else or carrying everyone else’s burdens.

A kyphosis can start to form in the spine during our teenage years when a girl is first starting to develop breasts and she wants to hide that area of her body, so she isn’t noticed or teased. She takes on a posture that hides this area of her body. When boys hit puberty and suddenly shoot up in height, they can compensate by bending forward, either to fit in or talk at the same level as others. These instinctual behaviours can extend into or even commence in adulthood, depending on our circumstances. It is an emotional response and a physical reaction, but what lies underneath kyphotic postures is keeping the heart - and essentially ourselves - hidden away. This posture completely changes the curvature of the spine and will remain that way for many years, or indefinitely if the blockages are never released.
