The Foundation Gateway
Being the largest bone of our spine, the sacrum provides a foundation for our entire torso to rest upon. When it is solid and open, the rest of the body can be balanced and stable. If this gateway is blocked or rotated, our whole spine is twisted, and our body will compensate.
The pelvis comprises the sacrum and the two ilium bones, joined together by the sacroiliac joints. The sacroiliac joint is what holds them together with strong ligaments that enable the sacrum and iliac bones to move. The sacrum, along with all the muscles and ligaments attached to it and to each other, is what keeps our body aligned as we walk. Both parts of the ilium rotate against the sacrum for movement to happen.
From the sacrum, the sacral nerves supply the organs and cells of this area, including the bladder, uterus, ovaries, prostate, and reproductive system, as well as the skin and muscles of our legs. Around twenty-six muscles attach to the bones in the foundation gateway. Woven in amongst them are several vessels and nerves, including the sciatic nerve.
The sciatic nerve, is the longest single nerve in our body, extending from the spine to pass through a small gap between the sacrum and each iliac bone down the entire length of each leg. When there is a blockage, it affects all these parts of the body. That is why a blockage in this gateway is the number one cause of back pain and sciatica. It also tends to be the main gateway where physical blockages are stored.
In addition to back pain and sciatica, people can experience uneven leg lengths, tight hamstrings, reproductive and uterine issues, infertility, menstrual problems, bladder and prostate issues, and even sexual dysfunction.
The most common cause of injury to this area of the spine is from repetitive strain from bending and twisting, which tears the micro fibers of the sacroiliac joint each time we move a certain way. When the sacroiliac joint becomes inflamed, the brain sends a signal to the muscles to contract and protect the joint to hold everything in place. Around 75% of our body weight is bearing down on this joint. And, when we walk, the vibration reverberates from the ground up into the knee and the sacroiliac joint. When we have all our weight bearing down and the vibration from underneath, it can be very hard to heal.
The foundation gateway is also one of the main areas where the body’s natural energy is stored. If your body cannot access its life force, then you will be energy deficient. If it is blocked, your nervous system will not be able to utilise it.
When we access this energy and send it through the body via the spinal wave, healing can happen.
