Grounding Meditation
Grounding is a way of stabilizing the energy of the body by reconnecting to the energy of Mother Earth. It is a way to focus our attention on the body and our senses while bringing us out of our heads and minds. When in nature, we tend to breathe slowly and deeply. Breathing this way calms our nervous system and quietens the mind.
There are many ways to ground yourself:
- Listen to music with tribal drums.
- Take off your shoes and walk barefoot on a lawn, in the dirt, or along a beach.
- Go for a walk in nature, or just sit quietly leaning against a tree.
- Deep or cyclic breathing.
- Do a grounding meditation!
Signs that you need to ground your energies:
- Hard to focus, foggy or scattered thinking.
- Feeling emotional and overwhelmed.
- Find it hard to focus on one task.
- Feeling nervous, anxious, or emotional.
- Often tired and lethargic.
Preparation:
- Find somewhere quiet where you will not be disturbed.
- Sit or lie in a comfortable position, you may need a blanket for comfort.
- Set the mood with some soft music and fragrance.
- Take some deep breaths. On the in-breath see, feel, or simply trust that you are breathing in love and light from your very source. On the out-breath, release that love and light out into the room through your energy centers.
- Relax and release the tension on every out breath.
- When you feel calm and relaxed you are ready to begin.
The Meditation:
Close your eyes and take five or six deep breaths in and out. Intend to breathe in the very energy of life, pure from our source and the Universe. Feel yourself breathing out stress, tension, or anything that is no longer for your highest good.
Continue with your deep breaths as you feel, see or simply trust that a column of pure white crystalline light is shining down on your crown center. You allow this light to flow down into your Crown center, filling, expanding, and opening this center before you allow the light to move on to your Brow center. The light flows, one at a time, down through the rest of your energy centers until it reaches your base center. Here the energy starts to grow stronger as your base center expands.
Begin to move your breath up and down your spine. Pull your breath up on the in-breath, and push it down on the out-breath. As your breath moves up and down you notice the energy start to move up and down as well.
While your breath moves up and down your spine you notice roots growing out from the soles of your feet, reaching like fingers deep into the Earth on every out-breath.
Begin to move your breath and the energy in your Base center down your legs and into the Earth on the out-breath. Pulling it back up into your body on the in breath.
Breathe like this for a while before you notice that your roots have found a golden ball of liquid love deep within the Earth. Your roots peirce this ball and the liquid love soaks up your roots, nourishing and soothing every muscle, fiber, and cell in your body.
Feel this love grow strong within you as it starts to radiate out into your Aura, eventually filling the space you are in.
Soak in this energy, feeling a strong connection to Mother Earth. Feel yourself standing strong, tall, and resilient.
When you are ready to come back, slowly wriggle your toes and fingers before opening your eyes.
I hope you enjoy this meditation.
